Best Sit on Top Fishing Kayaks – Reviews
1. Lifetime Tamarack Angler 100 Fishing Kayak
A secure and stable kayak that is built especially for fishing.
The Lifetime Tamarack Angler is a sit-on-top kayak that is built with a variety of features that allow for easy sit-on-top kayak fishing.
When it comes to storage, the Tamarack has enough space to carry tackle bags, nets, coolers, and more.
Unlike other kayaks that aren’t built especially for fishing, the Tamarack features three-rod holders: two flush-mounted holders on each side of the kayak, with one swivel-top-mounted rod holder on the side. The LifeTime Tamarack Angler Kayak also comes with a paddle. Oh, and the kayak even features bungees to hold the paddle when it is not in use.
So, this kayak has many features, but what about comfort? As the name implies, you’ll be sitting on top of this kayak, so a comfy seat is needed. Fortunately, the Lifetime Tamarack features a well-padded seat, although it’s not the comfiest on the market. Basically, you get what you pay for. With that said, the Tamarack does offer plenty of legroom.
When looking for the best sit-on-top angling kayak, you need confidence in the quality of your purchase. That’s why we love the LifeTime’s 5-year limited warranty.
- Length – 10 feet
- Width – 31inch
- Weight – 52lbs
- Capacity – 275lb
- Might need to upgrade the seat
2. Old Town Predator MK 13 Fishing Kayak
Complete with the Minn-Kota motor, this is our best motor-powered sit-on-top fishing kayak.
The Predator MK is a sit-on-top fishing kayak that is powered by a motor. The large kayak is ideal for anyone that wants to fish from a kayak that can move along the water hands-free. It also allows you to speed along the water to get to your chosen spot in no time at all. Here are our other top motorized kayaks.
Specifically, the motor that provides the power is a Minn-Kota Console. In fact, this motor gives 45lb of thrust that is quiet enough not to scare the fish. Furthermore, this console has variable speed controls and forward/reverse drive, which gives full kayak control.
All sit-on-top kayaks must be comfy. After all, you’re likely going to be sat on your bottom for long periods of time. Luckily, the Predator MK 13 has a comfortable seat that can be adjusted for various positions. Although this is a sit-on kayak, you can stand up and fish from the slip-resistant deck.
To store all your essential fishing items, the Predator MK has dual tackle holders, water-tight bow hatch, and the Exo-Ridge tank well. The space under your seat is ideal for keeping you tackle box or lunchbox near you at all times.

- Width – 36”

3. Sevylor Coleman Colorado 2-Person Fishing Kayak
This is our best tandem sit-on-top fishing kayak. It has an inflatable, yet durable build.
Designed especially for fishing, the Sevylor Colorado Kayak is an inflatable sit-on-top fishing kayak for two people. Unlike hard-shell kayaks, Colorado is ideal for those who have minimal storage space. But don’t worry; the kayak has a durable build with a massive 470lb weight capacity (great kayak for big guys). This is thanks to a double-wall construction with a puncture-resistant outer layer. Furthermore, multiple air chambers act as lifelines in case a leak should happen (but you should really be wearing a lifejacket).
As a two-person sit-on-top fishing kayak, the Sevylor features two-rod holders, which are proudly displayed on either side of the paddlers. Fellow anglers will also appreciate the multiple mesh pockets and D rings for tackle storage.
The kayak comes with everything you need to get started, well, sort of! You’ll get a pressure gauge and carry bag, but no paddles or pump! As such, you will have to purchase these separately. But at least this way you can get the best paddles for your needs.
We are also fans of the Intex Excursion – It is also an inflatable tandem kayak that is affordable, comfortable, and tracks well. We choose the Sevylor for this review as it has been built especially for fishing.
- Overall length – 10 feet 9 inches
- Width – 39 inch
- Weight – 41lbs
- Capacity – 470lbs
- Durable build quality
- High weight capacity
- Paddles and pump need to be purchased separately
4. Sun Dolphin Journey 10-Foot Sit-on-top Fishing Kayak
Similar to the Tamarack above, the Sun Dolphin Journey is another stable sit-on-top kayak that is built especially for anglers.
With a 10 foot length, the Journey 10 is a stable fishing kayak that travels through the water nicely. However, if you want a fast-speed fishing kayak that cuts through the water, then you may prefer its 12-foot cousin, the Sun Dolphin Journey 12.
Just like all good fishing kayaks, the Sun Dolphin Journey features multiple storage hatches for you to safely store all your essential pieces of fishing equipment. The first storage hatch is located conveniently behind the seat and is sealed watertight to provide protection to important gear, like your phone and wallet. There are also multiple smaller hatches at the bow of the kayak, and another that is positioned in front of the seat.
What makes this one of the best-rated sit-on-top fishing kayaks is the rod holding capabilities. The kayak features two flush-mount rod holders on each side and a swivelling rod holder that is located next to the cupholder.
Now, comfort is important when sitting on top of a kayak all day. Luckily, the Sun Dolphin features a padded seat & back that provides relief for your back. The kayak also provides plenty of room and comes with adjustable foot-braces. These allow users to adjust to their optimal comfort position. With that said, we do wish the kayak featured slightly more comfort on the seat. Although, this can be fixed with a small amount of DIY.
The 44lb kayak is portable too – retractable handles located on the bow and stern mean this kayak is easy to carry to the water’s edge.
- Overall length – 10 feet
- Width – 30 inch
- Weight – 44lbs
- Capacity – 250lbs
- Stable and travels well through water
- Lots of storage space
- Padded seating for comfort
- Seat comfort could be improved – perhaps needs seating accessory to improve comfort
